The film heater is formed by applying metal foil in a fine pattern onto a plastic film insulator, enabling the unit to achieve a very high wattage density. The special combination of the heater pattern and insulator provides drip-proof heat resistance up to 180°C. Film heaters are manufactured using resistance wire made of nichrome. Various heat resistant insulators may be used, making this heater suitable for a wide range of applications.
