Application Engineer – Hudson, MA, USA

Job Type: Full Time – OC Division

SENKO is looking for a driven and team-oriented individual to join our collaborative company focused on product development for a growing fiber optic market. The main purpose of this role is to support the Product Management Group with engineering related activities to develop new fiber optic connectivity and passive technology solutions. The individual will often work directly with the customer to understand their needs and requirements. The applicant will have the ability to lead the customer in the right direction and assist them in determining solutions with a current product or customizing of a product to suit their needs.

The Application Engineer must possess the ability to be a fiber optic technical lead of the Product Management Group and move projects forward based on challenges that arise. The applicant will be expected to analyze information as it comes in and make educated decisions on the information discovered. The applicant will be expected to communicate findings internally and directly with customers. SENKO is positioned to support and train anyone interested in this position for people looking to continue their telecommunication passion in fiber optics.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Assist with the introduction of new products and technologies, ensuring a smooth transition from R&D to the market.
  • Provide technical expertise on fiber optic products and applications to both internal teams and customers.
  • Offer technical feedback on designs and applications to enhance product performance and customer satisfaction.
  • Operate fiber optic test equipment to validate R&D designs, experiments, and product performance.
  • Handle fiber processing tasks such as stripping, ribbonizing, cleaving, crimping, splicing, polishing, and conducting geometric and visual connector inspections.
  • Deliver on-site application support and training to customers when required.
  • Build strong technical and commercial relationships with customers, internal teams, suppliers, and third-party organizations.
  • Assess customer requests to determine technical feasibility and coordinate with development engineering on specifications and performance standards.
  • Draft, validate, and edit technical documents, including Application Notes and White Papers.
  • Support sales by understanding customer requirements and delivering technical presentations as needed.
  • Present product modifications or final products to customers and gather feedback.
  • Help establish and manage in-house and external testing protocols.
  • Contribute to product development by identifying new product ideas, market opportunities, and benchmarking industry trends.
  • Document product applications by preparing application notes on features, functions, operational requirements, and warnings, and ensuring updates are provided as necessary.
  • Provide insights into competitor applications and support product development by tracking industry applications.
  • Address customer application needs through research, engineering techniques, and by verifying application performance, ensuring a seamless transition to manufacturing.
  • Maintain customer relationships by resolving concerns, following up with customers, and working closely with sales, product management, and quality assurance teams.
  • Stay updated on emerging fiber optic technologies and best practices by participating in educational opportunities, attending trade shows, and reading industry publications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering preferred. Other technical degree, or equivalent work-related experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience with a background in fiber optic passive component parts, connectors, cable assemblies, or similar electro-mechanical components required.
  • Familiarity with fiber optic technology, including fiber handling, connector processing, and testing. Basic understanding of 3D CAD drawings, models, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) is required.
  • Ability to travel to 30% to provide on-site customer support, training, and application demonstrations is required.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in direct B2B sales to OEMs, with the ability to assess customer needs and provide tailored technical solutions is preferred
  • Previous experience in production planning and forecasting in a technical or manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • R&D experience, particularly in fiber optic technology or component development, is preferred

Salary Description:

$65,000 – $85,000 per year
